FedEx is ordering 2,000 electric medium-duty trucks from EV startup Harbinger in a deal worth $300 million, the largest bulk order yet for the company. Harbinger, which already has trucks in production, plans to deliver all 2,000 vehicles by the end of next year.
The order builds on FedEx's existing relationship with Harbinger, which included a $160 million Series C funding round led by FedEx late last year and an earlier order of 53 trucks already delivered.
Harbinger, founded in 2022 by former employees of Anduril, Canoo, and QuantumScape, is the primary beneficiary. The company is moving beyond its core electric truck chassis to pursue hybrid emergency vehicles, battery energy storage, defense applications, and autonomous driving.
FedEx is also affected as a major customer and investor, while competitors in the electric commercial vehicle space and adjacent software vendors serving fleet and manufacturing operations will feel the ripple effects.
Watch for Harbinger's ability to hit delivery milestones and whether it expands beyond FedEx as an anchor customer. The company's move into defense and energy storage could signal a pivot toward higher-margin, government-adjacent revenue streams.
Also monitor for IPO filings, which would force greater operational transparency and likely accelerate enterprise software purchasing across the organization.
