WeTravel, the leading operating system for multi-day travel, acquired Tourwriter Limited, a New Zealand software company used by luxury tailor-made tour operators and destination management companies. The deal closed on September 9, 2026, approximately one year after WeTravel announced its $92M Series C round from Sapphire Ventures, Left Lane, Base10, and Cross Creek. The two companies will continue to operate as separate platforms, with WeTravel investing in Tourwriter's product development through its payment infrastructure and AI capabilities.
WeTravel and Tourwriter’s product and engineering teams are directly affected, as they will collaborate on integrating payment and AI tooling into Tourwriter’s platform. Luxury custom tour operators using Tourwriter will gain access to WeTravel’s multi-currency payment processing, virtual and physical cards, and AI-powered features. WeTravel’s existing custom and luxury travel clients also stand to benefit from expanded tooling for bespoke itineraries.
The acquisition targets the growing bespoke travel segment: WeTravel’s platform data shows custom and luxury bookings rose 16% and dollar volume jumped 31% year-over-year in the first half of 2026. The company’s 2026 Annual Trends Report found 56% of operators saw increased interest in custom luxury bookings in 2025 versus the prior year. This deal strengthens WeTravel’s position in the $271 billion experiences market, particularly the high-end custom corner where operator workload scales with bookings.
WeTravel’s investment focus will be on integrating its global payment infrastructure and AI tooling into Tourwriter’s platform. Look for product updates around multi-currency payouts, supplier management, and AI-driven quoting. The combined company’s ability to streamline the entire operator workflow—from itinerary to payment—could accelerate adoption among luxury DMCs. Also monitor whether WeTravel leverages its recently launched virtual/physical cards to deepen financial services for Tourwriter’s 35-country customer base.
