Panasonic Holdings Corp announced a $3B investment to pivot its De Soto, Kansas plant from EV battery production to AI data center batteries. The plant, opened in July 2026, will repurpose part of its operations to meet rising demand for data center infrastructure.
Panasonic Energy, the subsidiary managing the plant, and its customers in the AI and data center sectors are directly impacted. The plant currently employs 1,800 people and plans to expand its workforce as production scales up.
Monitor Panasonic’s progress in repurposing production lines and scaling up data center battery production by FY2029. Key milestones include mass production starting in late 2028 or early 2029 and the completion of the plant’s second wing by 2027.
