Furo, a Munich-based startup spun out of the Technical University of Munich in 2025, closed a $4 million funding round. TQ Ventures led the investment, joined by Sheryl Sandberg's family office, Neo, and CDTM Venture Capital. The company previously operated under the name Lumera Energy. Furo develops AI software that provides real-time control and energy trading for commercial battery storage, predicting prices and weather up to 48 hours ahead to optimize charging and discharging cycles. The startup claims this can cut a customer's electricity costs by up to 40%.
The funding directly impacts Furo's current and future customers, which include Deutsche Bahn, Sonnen, and Enpal. The company serves over 6,000 sites and 800 customers through installers, project developers, manufacturers, and utilities. Competitors such as Suena (Hamburg), Einklang (Cologne), and Scale Energy (Berlin) are also active in the space, but Furo differentiates by covering the full lifecycle from planning to live trading. The new capital will help Furo hire more staff and enter additional European markets.
Key questions include whether Furo can maintain its profit margins as larger incumbents enter the market and whether the software's advantage persists as the technology matures. Also watch for the company's expansion into new European countries and its ability to scale its platform across more sites and customers. The involvement of high-profile investors like Sheryl Sandberg's family office adds credibility and could generate further interest in the German climate-tech ecosystem.
