GE HealthCare announced the $945 million acquisition of Sofie Biosciences, a U.S.-based radiopharmaceutical contract manufacturing organization (CMO) with 15 sites. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027 and will fold Sofie into GE HealthCare's pharmaceutical diagnostics (PDx) business.
Sofie will remain an independent manufacturing partner to its existing customers and continue supplying its current portfolio, including products from other radiopharmaceutical providers. GE HealthCare also gains U.S. rights to FAPI-74, a pipeline pan-cancer PET radiotracer, while Sofie already manufactures GE HealthCare's Flyrcado F18 injection product.
GE HealthCare's PDx business and its customers will see expanded access to time-sensitive PET imaging drugs. Sofie Biosciences' existing customers—including other radiopharmaceutical providers—will continue to be served independently, preserving their supply relationships.
GE HealthCare's CEO of PDx, Kevin O'Neill, said the acquisition enables participation across the radiopharmaceutical value stream, meeting demand through a mix of owned and partner facilities. The company expects the deal to contribute to revenue growth and adjusted EPS in the first full year of ownership.
BTIG analyst Zimmerman noted that the added manufacturing and distribution capacity could help reduce bottlenecks in the radiopharmaceutical adoption cycle. The acquisition strengthens GE HealthCare's position in the growing radiopharmaceutical market.
Watch for regulatory approvals and the expected H1 2027 close. Post-close, monitor how GE HealthCare balances owned manufacturing with its existing CMO partner network, and whether Sofie's independent customer relationships remain stable.
Also track integration of FAPI-74 development and any new supply agreements that emerge from the expanded network. The deal's contribution to GE HealthCare's financials will be visible in the first full year after closing.
