Expanse, an AI infrastructure startup, raised $5.3 million in seed funding led by Crane Venture Partners, with participation from PXN Group, Y Combinator, Standard Capital, Scribble Ventures, AIP Seed, General Advance, Ritual Capital, Robinhood Ventures, and Twenty Two Ventures. The company is developing technology that predicts the computing resources an AI workload will need before the workload begins running. According to Expanse, this capability can allow teams to complete as much as twice the amount of work using the same hardware, improving utilization of increasingly expensive AI infrastructure.
Infrastructure teams managing GPU clusters for AI training, inference, and agentic workloads are directly affected. These teams frequently over-provision compute and memory to avoid failures or unpredictable performance, leading to idle capacity even as organizations face GPU shortages and rising infrastructure costs. Expanse’s approach aims to reduce that inefficiency by forecasting workload requirements more precisely before execution, giving operators an opportunity to fit more jobs onto available hardware.
Expanse participated in Y Combinator’s P26 batch and now has additional capital to develop the platform and expand deployments. Watch for the company’s go-to-market strategy and potential integration partners, as well as how competitors in the AI infrastructure optimization space respond with similar predictive capabilities. The financing positions Expanse to capitalize on the trend toward maximizing output from existing GPU fleets.
