Cato, an Italian AI startup, announced a €6 million seed round led by Keen Venture Partners. Existing investors Vento, Heartfelt, Moonstone, BHeroes, Alecla7 and Nova Venture also participated, alongside angel investors from Lexroom, Sibill and Pillar.
The funding follows a pre-seed round led by Italian Founders Fund, bringing Cato's total raised to €7.6 million. The company will use the capital to further develop its AI platform, expand commercial operations, grow its team, and begin international expansion beyond Italy.
Cato's platform helps businesses find, analyse and compete for public tenders. Six months after launch, it has processed thousands of tenders for customers in Italy, ranging from SMEs to large companies in medical devices, construction, IT and services.
As Cato scales, it will need sales, marketing, HR, legal, and infrastructure support across both its Italian base and new international markets — making it a live target for B2B vendors.
Public procurement accounts for around 14% of EU GDP — roughly €2.5 trillion annually across more than 250,000 contracting authorities. In Italy alone, public tenders were worth €309 billion in 2025.
Cato's international expansion will require localised positioning, sales hires, and compliance expertise in new EU markets. Watch for early customer wins outside Italy and partnerships that signal which sectors or geographies they prioritise next.
