Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume is reportedly planning a major restructuring that could eliminate up to 100,000 jobs globally and close four German factories. The plan aims to cut costs and boost profits, potentially reducing Volkswagen's five-year investment by 15% to €130 billion.
The proposed closures include Volkswagen's plants in Hanover, Zwickau, and Emden, as well as Audi's factory in Neckarsulm. These sites are crucial for EV production, with Zwickau being Volkswagen's flagship EV plant and Emden producing the ID.4 and ID.7.
Volkswagen's supervisory board is expected to discuss the plans in the coming weeks. Any major restructuring would require approval through the company's governance process and likely face opposition from German labor unions.
