Oracle disclosed in a regulatory filing that it is expanding its planned job cuts by approximately $700 million, raising the total estimated cost of its 2026 Restructuring Plan to roughly $2.8 billion. The additional costs reflect "additional actions that we expect to take," the company said.
The plan covers severance, contract termination fees, and related exit costs. Through August 31, Oracle had recorded about $2.1 billion in charges. A portion of the reduction is linked to how Oracle is deploying AI across parts of its business.
Oracle's total global workforce fell by roughly 21,000 compared with the prior year, leaving around 141,000 employees — a drop of about 13%. Some teams are facing double-digit cuts, according to Business Insider, as reported ahead of the September 1 start of Q2.
Displaced Oracle employees include roles affected by AI adoption and automation, making them a target pool for SDRs offering career transition, upskilling, or recruiting services.
Oracle's buildout is straining cash flow. Capital expenditures hit $28.5 billion in the quarter ended August 31, up from $8.5 billion a year earlier. Free cash flow was negative $5.4 billion.
Oracle said the expanded restructuring reflects "additional actions" it expects to take, so further layoff announcements are likely. Cloud revenues now account for 60% of total revenues, up from 48% a year earlier — watch how AI-related revenue growth offsets restructuring costs.
Executive Chair Larry Ellison adopted a share trading plan allowing sale of up to 50 million shares through October 24, which may signal insider sentiment. Track Oracle's Q2 filings for updates on headcount and restructuring charges.
