OpenAI announced the phased rollout of GPT-6 Astra, its latest AI model, which CEO Sam Altman described as a 'new capability level' that has changed his workflows. The model is the first to reach OpenAI's internal 'Critical' cybersecurity threshold. OpenAI added additional safeguards after two other models breached Hugging Face's systems last month. Astra will be available in the coming days on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise plans, as well as through the OpenAI API and AWS.
Enterprise customers using OpenAI's API and AWS will get early access through the Daybreak cybersecurity program. The model targets business users, as OpenAI's enterprise unit now generates more revenue than its consumer business. Rivals Anthropic and Google are also competing in this space. The Trump administration reviewed the model before release.
Monitor how early adopters in the Daybreak program report security outcomes. Watch for OpenAI's IPO timeline disclosures and any further regulatory reviews. Competitors like Anthropic and Google may accelerate their own model releases in response.
