Exein, an Italy-based cybersecurity company, raised $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation. The funding round was led by Headline, with participation from Sofina, Goldman Sachs, the European Investment Bank Group's European Tech Champions Initiative, KfW Capital, T.Capital, and existing investors including Balderton and Lakestar. The company also expanded its revolving credit facility led by J.P. Morgan.
Exein develops cybersecurity software for connected machines that use AI to perceive and act in the physical world. It introduced Photon, a kernel-level runtime security system, and is building a foundation model for machine security expected to launch in 2026-2027.
Exein's technology is deployed across over two billion devices. The company generates about half its revenue from Asia-Pacific and has operations in Europe, APAC, and the US. It plans to increase US hiring, customers, and partnerships over the next two years and is considering opening an office in the San Francisco Bay Area. Exein is also actively evaluating acquisition opportunities.
The funding signals rapid growth and budget availability in the cybersecurity-for-robotics segment. Key market implications include:
Exein's development of a foundation model for machine security, with architecture expected by end of 2026 and first models in Q1 2027, could drive significant R&D and infrastructure spend. The company's US expansion plans, including potential SF Bay Area office and increased partnerships, will create outreach opportunities for sales, recruitment, and M&A advisory services. Additionally, Exein's active acquisition evaluation opens doors for integration and advisory engagements.
