Amara Raja Energy & Mobility announced a ₹1,700 crore capex plan for FY27, focusing on lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company’s new energy unit, Amara Raja Advanced Technologies, aims to achieve a total cell manufacturing capacity of 16GWh by 2030, with the first 2GWh production line set to launch by June 2027.
This expansion impacts suppliers and partners in the energy storage and EV sectors, as well as competitors in the lithium-ion battery market. The company’s focus on BESS also aligns with India’s renewable energy drive.
Key milestones include the commissioning of the Telangana gigafactory by Q1 FY28 and the launch of the first 2GWh production line by June 2027. Additionally, the 5GWh BESS integration facility’s production start by end of 2026 will be a critical development.
