AI security startup AIR exited stealth with $50 million raised across two seed rounds. Sequoia led the first $10M round; Greenoaks led the second $40M round. Founded by Unit 8200 veterans, AIR offers a platform that discovers AI agents within enterprises, continuously vets their skills, plugins, and MCP servers, and blocks interactions that don't meet security criteria.
The startup claims it currently filters out about 27% of add-ons and skills found online.
Companies deploying AI agents—particularly in highly regulated industries like financial services and pharmaceuticals—are directly affected. AIR has already signed 20+ customers, with roughly a quarter being large enterprises. The platform also surfaces unauthorised AI tool usage by employees, making it relevant for IT and security teams.
Competitors in the space include Noma Security (discovery and runtime monitoring), Zenity (security and governance), Astrix Security (identity + agent control), and Operant AI (agent protection and MCP gateway).
Watch whether AIR can scale its whitelist model faster than competitors. The company’s claim that AI labs will eventually build in security checks suggests long-term competition from platform vendors, but AIR argues independent cross-vendor solutions will remain necessary.
Also monitor adoption growth in unregulated industries and whether the category consolidates as enterprises standardize on agent security suites.
